Oh my goodness!
Oh my god! I was just on the phone to my best mate looked in my two female 1 year old dwarf hamsters cage to see half a hamster!Yup that's right, one of them ate the other!!!!! It looks like there was a fight and I guess the other one was protecting herself, killed her and then ate half of her... Feeling quite sick at the moment, still don't understand why, they were well looked after, always had food, water and clean cage, I've had hamsters before but this is a first...I think I am going to stick to cats, this is my last hamster...RIP Holly :(

Eww, that's pretty gross about the hamsters. :(
ReplyDeleteOh my! I didn't even know they could do that, but I guess they can be pretty savage little things.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry about Holly :(
Unfortunately, such behavior is not uncommon with rodents at all. One can get territorial for absolutely no reason whatsoever even if s/he's shared a cage with someone from day 1.
ReplyDeleteI've had a mouse kill her two cagemates for no apparent reason and the vet's stance was "Well, shit like this happens, and it's very common", but how can you exactly look at the one to "blame" the same anymore after that? :(
OMG. That's scary!! :(
ReplyDeleteWhen I was younger, my hamsters did the same thing, which is why we never had hamsters after that..hah. and the same as Jonna, our vet said, "it happens, its survival of the fittest"..ugh!!
